montaukbiker I was stationed in Germany 3 times thru the 70's with the Army, the older I get the more I miss the place. Happy Veterans Day 2016 to those and families who served. P.S. I had a bad car accident in Giessen which was my fault and I would like to thank the LTC at 97th for patching me up. Some things can never be forgotten.

As a fellow WO in the Command Flight Platoon with "Wild Bill" Helwig, i still remember his story of saying auf Deutsch how he liked to go "shooting" in woods...well, he meant to say "shooting."

I lived with my family 1965-67 in 2233 Platen Strasse, C6. and was the stairwell coordinator. My wife was principal at the Frankfurt Coop Nursery and Kindergarten. I worked in the I.G. Farben Bldg. I was with the CIA My three children enjoyed the experience and went to school about a long block away from the building. I served a total of 4 years in W. Germ. during my career and enjoyed every minute and really liked the country and it's people. C. Christian

I used to live at 2207 C-3 Platenstrasse from 1955-1960 (34d t0 7th grade). They were brand new and I walked across the open field to get to the school. Later on, the field became a baseball complex, and now I see everything is overgrown - but the apartments look just the same. I have vivid memories of the entire area - we lived right next to a soccer field and across from that were little gardening plots the Germans used for growing vegetables. The life of an Army brat can be tough but who would ever give up all the experiences of traveling and meeting people all over Europe?!

I lived on Pleingerstrasse in HICOG from 1960 until 1963. I went Frankfurt American Junior High School which used to be a Nazi Warehouse back in the day. I was a cheerleaders for the 97th General "Little Generals" football team. The hamburgers at the tennis court fieldhouse were awesome. On Friday nights we rode a school bus to the ice skating rink at Rhein Main Air Force base and we hung out afterwards at the Snack Bar. Great times!
