Hi Marilyn, I am Cindy Hackett of Cindy and Dave Hackett. Dave also worked for GAO and we lived at Jakob Leisler from 1974-1978. Our two littles were born there - Courtney (75) and Matthew (77). We moved back to the states in June of 1978. I don't remember the # address, but we had a red VW Camper and and old green Maverick and we were close to the street. Moved from 3rd floor to ground floor after our son was born. Friends with Judi and Phil Prince, George and Ruth Puskarich (FAA), Dave and Lynette Martin and many others. We loved our time there ... it was magical.

I lived in 2212 A-2 from 1963 to 1965. What a blast from the past to read about people who lived in this same housing area in Germany. Does anyone remember the little German candy store at the end of the block? They sold black licorice whips and sour sticks. Yum.

I lived on Gibbs Kaserne from around 1964-1966, I am looking for a guy named Roger, his father was a WO at the time and he was finished with college and heading to work in the oil fields of Iran or Iraq. It has been a long time and my memory has faded a lot. I want to say their last name was Beatty but I am not really sure. Maybe someone on here knows of them.

Donald, I was in the same platoon. Do you remember SFC Boozer? Funny name for guy who didn’t drink. I worked under him, SSG Capehart, Mr Reedy and Mr McSweeny. I was there from 1983-1986. I don’t remember you but I was in communications so we were rarely near the hangers.

Roger Jones, I was with the 62nd Avn Co, in support of 5th Corps. I was the crew chief of the helicopter with the ?LTC in charge of the SOTAS (stand off target acquisition system), for which I received a letter of commendation. This was the years Dec. 76-Dec 79. If anyone knows the whereabouts of a SSG Larry Hanson, I would like to know.

  • United States Consulate General Frankfurt, Mike (guest) wrote 6 years ago:
It's on Giessner Strasse. Just google Friedberger Warte(old tower nearby one block or so) and you will get your bearings. I was there in June of this year (stationed there 1973-1975) and security is very tight. They do not allow tours and you must have some sort of consulate business to get an appointment to get inside complex and building.

Lynette, I too shared those memories! And I do remember that slide AND the toy store at the exchange!! Couldn't wait to get there when I could afford a new Corgie model car!!! It was the only time in my life when I bought comic books too! LOL! Dad was FAA as well! 3/3 Jacob Leisler Strasse (next to the tennis courts and field house!)

Small world Debbie! I too lived in Hicog from '62-'69 (3/3 Jacob Leisler Strasse), and my Dad was a pilot with the FAA out of Rhein-Main! We went to Berchtesgaden every Christmas and often stayed at the General Walker. Learned to ski there as well! And like you, we traveled all over western Europe in a light blue, '62 Ford! That's when we weren't taking trips with Dad (Edward J. Farley) on the FAA plane! Some of the FAA family names I remember are Oberg, Josephson, Moldenour, Price, and Rogers. Your post made me smile! ;)

My family and I lived on Joachim Becher Strasse from around 1963-1968. My father was with the FAA. I was in the 3rd grade when went back to the states. Even at that young age I still remember how wonderful it was to play in the grass and climb the trees around the apartments with my friends during the summer and how fun it was to go down the long silver slide at the playground down the path through the apartments. To a young child with so many kids around the area it felt like a close community to live in. I also loved going to the base for groceries, lunch and to pick out a new comic book or toy at the toy store there now and then. While in Germany my family would take driving trips throughout several of the countries around Germany. I especially remember Paris and France in general which we visited often because my father was also an artist and enjoyed that area. It was a great time and I have warm memories of living in Frankfurt.

We lived there in the early seventies, my dad was Foreign Service, but the HS was so bad (race riots in the halls) the government gave my dad a stipend to send me to boarding school in the u.s. I loved Gruneburg park, and the big landscaped office park across the street, and the nearby community gardens - it was a great spot really - easy access to trolly, downtown, Darmstadt, the Zoo. My sister and brother played tennis in the central courts..Wonder what happened to the Pogo wall mural my parents let me paint on the walls of one of our two apartments..long time ago..

Graduated FAHS in 61. A good friend, Dennis Healy (FAHS 62) lived in HICOG then and just sent me a scan of an article detailing the construction of HICOG, circa 1950-51.Led me to this web site. Wondering if Christine Roth Hunter, whose comment I see posted here, is related to Mike Roth, a classmate and basketball teammate.
